A Motor Control Center (MCC) controls, protects and manages electric motors. Learn what it does, what goes into it and what a properly built MCC looks like.
An MCC, or Motor Control Center, is a key part of industrial power systems, used to control, protect and manage electric motors. In plants and projects with many motors and electrical loads, MCC panels play a central role in distributing and controlling power.
Designing an MCC
MCC design calls for careful attention to the choice of protection and control devices, load distribution, rated current, operating conditions and project requirements. Circuit breakers, contactors, overload relays, drives and other motor control equipment are built into the panel as the project demands.
Building it properly
A well-built MCC is more than an assembly of components. It includes power and control circuit design, equipment selection, layout, wiring, testing and final inspection. A standard-compliant panel must be safe and reliable while also allowing easy maintenance and future expansion.
